Ja'far 'Abd al-Hamid

  • Has been working in Arabic independent film and TV in London since the early 1990s
  • MA Film and TV Studies, 2005
  • Submitting a PhD in Film Adaptation in the Cinema of the Arab World, London
  • Helped organise international film festivals, including the Raindance Film Festival, London 2006 (Programming Assistant)
  • Directed short films ( A Two Hour Delay (UK, 2000); Eyes Wide Open (UK, 2005)) and TV pilots (HTS (UK, 1998); Test Drive (UK, 1999))

 

In production:Badgeless Sur La Croisette : A 26 minute DV documentary capturing the experience of a passionate filmmaker finding it impossible to fully experience the Cannes film festival without a badge.  

Theatre of Exile:  Super 16MM/DV Documentary feature following the journey of an Iraqi female director as she guides a group of Iraqi expats, refugees and Britons of Iraqi origin, through the challenging journey of independently staging an Arabic language play in London.

A Trace of the rivers:  Super 16MM/DV documentary reassembling images of Baghdad through the recollections and stories of members of the Iraqi Jewish community in London
